Welcome to Hawthorne Manor and '13 Days of Halloween'

13 Days Of Halloween is a new horror podcast offering up 13 stories from 13 very special rooms in the Hawthorne Manor. Each day, the Caretaker, played by Keegan-Michael Key, takes us on a tour of the manor and its many….oddities. Along the way, we meet the strange guests who call the Manor home, hear blood-curdling tales that send shivers up our spine, and slowly unravel the mystery of the hidden door. In the first episode, we meet the ingratiating Caretaker, who touts the Manor as “a waystation for countless weary souls, a home for those without destination,” and draws our attention to the many “architectural anomalies” of the house. But before we’re taken to our room at the Manor, we’re introduced to another guest named Soren.

Soren tells us his story, a tale full of dread and tension: His childhood had been normal enough: Nice house, big backyard, two loving parents. Over time, his parents began to fear for the future, and became doomsday preppers. The big backyard was given over to grow vegetables, which were jarred and jellied and pickled for long-term preservation; the basement became a bunker stocked with dozens of guns; they had enough frozen and freeze-dried food to last for a year. Soren wasn’t sure what exactly they were worried about, dismissing it as fear-mongering from the news – “but I guess they were right,” he says a little ruefully.

After “the disturbance,” Soren went home to finally accept one of his father’s guns for protection. But something wasn’t right. The usually clean house was filthy and littered; his father unshowered, his breath rancid. All the vegetables were gone or rotted, the roots and stalks torn from the ground. “We can go about our business during the day,” Soren’s father assured him. “They only harvest at night.” With these words, they go down to the bunker together, but there’s no safety to be found there; only a horrifying nightmare. And those jars don’t have jelly in them after all….. If you’re ready for a hair-raising story to send chills down your spine, it’s time to listen to 13 Days of Halloween. If you dare….
