Zach Braff and Donald Faison sometimes get off topic. Fortunately, those times can be some of the funniest parts of their Scrubs rewatch podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends. On the TV show, they’re eerily demonstrating how easy it is for a virus to spread and kill people; Donald is part of the longest, and one of the strangest (so far), fantasy sequences in Scrubs history, and Zach’s character J.D. is letting his terrible intern get away with everything while punishing his good intern for dating his ex-girlfriend. They go over all that, but Zach gets sidetracked when he learns that, “with everything there is on TV,” Donald has chosen to binge-watch Doogie Howser M.D. Plus, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s acting career, Jaleel White’s Purple Urkle cannabis line, their favorite songs on the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack, and Donald’s three memorable nights with Gloria Estefan.

Naturally, they’re also hilarious while talking about the show, too. After a disagreement over the hilarity of the trained crow plotline, they break down the pumpkin fantasy in detail. This might be the first Scrubs fantasy to change locations; Zach thinks it’s certainly the longest and most elaborate so far, requiring a full day of shooting to get all the scenes from the pumpkin patch to the baseball game to the high school graduation. They both wonder how the pumpkin was able to successfully graduate high school, or get up to bat at a baseball game. “Say the pumpkin gets a hit. How does he run to first base?” Donald asks. “Maybe they’re allowed to roll him like a bowling ball,” Zach suggests.

As wacky as the episode was, it still was a bit of a tearjerker, and scenes from it went viral in 2020 as people were trying to explain how easy it is for Covid to spread. All unknowingly, J.D.’s terrible intern is infected with a virus, and he spreads it all around the hospital; it even ends up killing one of the patients who was meant to finally be going home. But no one ever knows who she caught it from, and that’s the hardest lesson to learn. “It’s so easy to hurt someone without even knowing,” Donald's wife CaCee Cobb sums up in a quick cameo. “I bawled my eyes out watching that.” Plus, their guests on the show prove that conversations about Scrubs make lifelong friendships; hear the most hilarious Scrubs conversation you could ask for on this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
